Quick Updates on Florida and Illinois Legislation

by Melanie on March 24, 2010

As I head off to attend Search Engine Strategies New York, a few quick updates on some pending nexus legislation.

In Illinois, SB 3353 (the Illinois Internet sales tax bill), was re-referred to Assignments Committee on March 19. This is not a significant change, it was because the bill was being held and they need more time; bill had to be sent back to assignments to give more time. It is expected it will again be reassigned to the Revenue Committee .

Down in Florida, HB 1443 is gaining momentum. This is a rather interesting (and complicated) bill yet it does not seem to get any attention from our industry.  This could be unfortunate for us, if we are not prepared. It takes the Colorado Internet sales tax up to the next level. It is on the agenda for Thursday, March 25.

It is important for Affiliates to be diligent in preparing their business model. Continue to identify replacement merchants, this will ensure that you always have a back up ready should the need arise.
