Hearing to Repeal Rhode Island Internet Sales Tax

by Melanie on March 17, 2010

** As of 4:50 pm on 3/17  the hearing has been cancelled! **

There will be a hearing on  HB 7071, the Rhode Island legislation that will repeal the Internet sales tax in Rhode Island. Introduced on January 12 by Representatives Gallison, McNamara, and Serpa, this bill seeks to remove the language added last year that requires the collection of sales tax by out of state merchants who use affiliates to solicit sales.

NOTICE OF MEETING
DATE:    Thursday, March 18, 2010
TIME:    4:00 P.M.
PLACE:    Trainor Hearing Room (Room 35) – State House

I have heard some mixed opinions on the likelihood of this bill getting serious consideration. Some feel that it is more of a public image move while others believe that the bill is  likely to hear serious debate from both sides.

If you live in Rhode Island it is important to make every attempt to attend the hearing and voice your opinion. Please contact Affiliate Advocacy for assistance with this issue.
