Call to Prepare for Nexus Legislation

In order to react in an efficient way Affiliate Advocacy believes that preparation is critical. Rather than panicking at a later time, take a few moments now to learn the steps you will need to take if modern nexus legislation is proposed in your state. Affiliate Advocacy is hosting a call to discuss how to prepare for the upcoming legislative session. Learn how to prepare for nexus legislation.

Aside from the five states without a state sales tax, no state is immune. News reports are filled with legislators talking about ways to reduce huge budget deficits. These deficits are increasing and states will need to take action to both reduce spending and increase revenue.

Many legislators are meeting with community leaders and discussing ways to increase revenue and the methods being spoken about include taxing online sales. It is almost guaranteed that several states will propose new nexus legislation, some have already publicly announced their plans. Some will be following up on the legislation introduced last year, others will be starting anew. Regardless of the path or method that will be used to tax online sales affiliates, merchants and even networks need to prepare. Do not be caught off guard when legislative sessions gear up and modern nexus laws are proposed.

Prepare does not mean panic. Preparing means taking proactive steps to protect your livelihood.

California,  Maryland and Hawaii  have already indicated they are working on legislation. South Carolina, Florida, Connecticut,  Minnesota, Tennessee and Arizona are just a few of the states that are speaking publicly about investigating new legislation.
Affiliate Advocacy believes that preparing is important to every affiliate and merchant in every state. We are, therefore, making this an open call but you must register in advance. Space may be limited and preference is given to members and sponsors of Affiliate Advocacy.

I have several affiliate based websites that earn commissions on sales; even though I currently am not selling to New York state I must be registered there. I have to fill out the “No Tax Due” form every quarter; it is not a regular quarter Jan-Feb-Mar it is off a month Sep-Oct-Nov. I was off one month and had to pay them a $50 dollar fine. Now imagine every state and having to file a tax return. Now imagine other countries chiming in and requiring tax returns in every currency exchange. This is a mole hill turning into a mountain.
